WhatsApp Treating Indian Users Differently from Europeans Matter of Concern: Government Tells Delhi High Court

WhatsApp is treating Indian users differently from Europeans over opting out of its new privacy policy which is a matter of concern for the government and it is looking into the issue, the Centre informed the Delhi High Court on Monday.

The central government told the high court that it was also a matter of concern that Indian users were being “unilaterally” subjected to the change in privacy policy by the instant messaging platform.

The submissions were made before Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva by Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Chetan Sharma during hearing of a petition by a lawyer against the new privacy policy of WhatsApp which is owned by Facebook.

YouTube.com Now Available to Be Installed as a Progressive Web App

YouTube site can now be installed as a Progressive Web App (PWA) for quick access. PWAs are — in oversimplified terms — web pages that can work like apps on your phone. PWA support was earlier added for YouTube Music and YouTube TV. The support was incorporated into the main YouTube site over the past few days. Google had recently announced that it was bringing Stadia to iOS as a PWA. Google Photos was made available as a PWA back in 2018. Twitter had also launched its PWA in 2018.
As explained by Google Developers, PWAs use modern Web capabilities to deliver a user experience that is similar to using an app. Pages in browser tabs can deliver immersive, high-level apps.
In Chrome, users are prompted with a plus icon in the omnibox, to ‘Install app’ notes 9to5Google. This is different from the ‘Install’ option in the overflow menu in Google Chrome, which has been around for a while now.

YouTube Adds Voice Commands on Web for a Smoother User Experience
After the PWA is installed, the users get a large red play logo in the app launcher to open YouTube in a window that doesn’t have the address bar among other user interface elements. The shelf pinning feature gives the users immediate access to what’s playing.
In November 2020, Google had announced that its cloud gaming service Stadia is finally coming to iOS as a PWA. In 2018, Google Photos was made available as a PWA. Twitter also launched its PWA on the Microsoft Store for mobile and desktop platforms in 2018.

Oppo F19 Series Tipped to Launch in February, Could Also Debut As Oppo F21 Instead

Oppo F19 series of smartphones is tipped to launch in February. As per a tweet by XDA Developers’ Tushar Mehta, the company could also end up using the Oppo F21 moniker for its upcoming lineup. Previous reports suggested that Oppo F19 and Oppo F21 would be two different series. Both the series were reported to debut earlier but none of the launches took place yet. The last phones that belonged to Oppo F-series were Oppo F17 and Oppo F17 Pro that launched in September. The phones in the upcoming series are expected to have some upgrades such as faster charging speeds, more cameras, and a high refresh rate over its predecessors.

As per the tweet by Mehta, Oppo F19 series of smartphones are expected to be launched in February this year. He goes on to say, “Given the irregular naming, this can also be called F21 instead but that’s simply a hunch.”

This is not the first time that the names of these series have surfaced. It was previously reported that Oppo F19 and Oppo F19 Pro would be the first phones to feature 5x and 10x hybrid optical zoom technology. But the phones didn’t launch

Samsung Galaxy Note 21 Ultra May Feature Under Panel Camera System, KIPO Trademark Application Suggests

Samsung Galaxy Note 21 Ultra may come with an under-display camera as Samsung has filed a trademark with Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) for the new technology. While the trademark doesn’t mention the upcoming Galaxy Note 21 in particular, it does mention ‘UPC,’ that stands for Under Panel Camera, as seen in a recent promo video from the company. The trademark does mention that this technology will be valid for both smartphones and laptops. Samsung has not officially shared any information on the Galaxy Note 21 series or the new technology.
The trademark application filed by Samsung Display with KIPO has application number 4020210009679 and shows UPC as the subject. While the trademark application does not state what UPC stands for, a promo video from Samsung Display was shared on YouTube that shows the abbreviation UPC and Under Panel Camera right below it. However, this video focussed on a laptop with an OLED display.
Coming back to the trademark application, the Designated Goods section shows a list of codes that point to multiple devices such as LCD, LED, and OLED displays, computer displays, and more importantly, smartphones. This suggests that the UPC technology will make its way to all these devices including smartphones, hence the speculation arose about the Galaxy Note 21.
